Pebble Beach Modern

Pebble Beach Modern

This new home design, for a prominent property in Pebble Beach, is generated from the opportunity for views out to Stillwater Cove and Point Lobos beyond and to enjoy a wonderful coast live oak tree at the center of the property. First, the home is rotated from being parallel with the street so that all the main rooms across the length of the house have best access to the views toward the sea. Secondly, we create a protected courtyard with the oak at its center, allowing the main public spaces to, at once, be connected to the courtyard on one side and on the other, to a terrace with the ocean views. A separate cubical form is created for the Master Bedroom suite with a private garden for the Master Bath and a private deck toward the view off the bedroom itself. Stone garden walls terrace up from the street and a taller stone wall invites visitors up to a fountain and then into the main entry while screening the motor court from the public right-of-way. The architecture evokes a warm minimalism with wood floors and ceilings throughout, limestone walls, and extensive custom oak cabinetry. A stairway, integrated into the stone walls, from the courtyard leads to a roof deck where the best views South over Carmel Bay can be enjoyed.
