We took an existing internally focused home and extended the architecture out to the landscape, reorganizing spaces to significantly expand the connection between the interior and exterior. New board-form concrete decks act simultaneously as architecture and landscape. The short walls at the edge of the decks define the limit of the interior experience, thereby expanding the rooms within.
The large expanse of existing asphalt was removed and replaced with a much more concise, concrete driveway with a separate pedestrian path of concrete step blocks and pavers interlocking with plantings while meandering carefully around the trees to a new gracious entry. Exterior materials and colors were chosen to more seamlessly integrate the home with its site.
